Life in the Polar Regions can be difficult, cold winds and winter temperatures that can reach negatives those winter nights can last for months.

These lands are home to more than a handful of wildlife, on land and under the sea surface. A 1959 treaty that established the continent as a place to be used only for peace and science protects Antarctica. The

Climate change in Arctic habitats and changing daily, it has warmed by nearly 10 degrees Fahrenheit since 1990 and continues to do so, warming two to three times faster than the average. Sea ice is one more thing to add to the list disappearing in Antarctica. If that’s lost it has the potential to wipe out the penguin species that live there.

Ursus maritimus aka Polar bears can weigh from to 800-1300 pounds they are about 6-9ft in length Polar bears are considered a marine mammal because they spend a lot of their time on the sea ice of the Artic Ocean. Their thick layer of body fat and water repellant coat helps insulate them from the cold air and water around them. Polar bears are also great swimmers and can swim six miles per hour by paddling with front paws and holding their hind legs flat. The polar bear population is broken into 19 subpopulations. Due to the loss of their sea ice habitat because of the climate change polar bears were listed as a threatened species in the United States in May 2008. They spend over half their time finding food.

Artic Sea ice declines to the sixth lowest extent on record in August 2013 up to 4,000 walruses are spotted at one location on September 14th. They are forsced to migrate due to the climate change in the Artic. They now have to swim a long distance to reach the Russian and Alaskan shorelines where conditions arent in their favor and not as safe as being on ice.

The artic wolves with the science given name Canis lupus arctos inhabit in the regions of North American and Greenland. They can weigh anywhere between 70 to 175 pounds their body length is measured at 3.2 to 5.9 feet. They are carnivorous hunters and help to control other animals in the region. Climate change has also made it difficult for the musk ox and an Artic hare to find food and that has cause a decline in the amount through the Artic.

Brown bears science given name Ursus arctos their height 3.35 feet to shoulders they can weigh anywhere from 440-770 pounds they can stand on two legs walk on the soles of their feet and pick up things with their fingers? Does any of this sound familiar? They communicate through leaving scratches on tree, smells and, sounds.
